Strategy
Which crops should you plant?
There is no single best crop. There is a best crop for what the town wants right now and for how long you will be away — and those two things are readable before you plant.
Every seed has three numbers behind it: how long it takes, how much it yields, and the level at which it unlocks. Slower seeds generally pay more per plot, which makes the naive strategy "always plant the slowest thing available" — and that is wrong for a simple reason: a crop that finishes while you are asleep earns nothing extra for the hours it sits ripe.
Start from demand, not from the seed list. The exchange shows what every business in town is asking for and what it pays. Two crops with similar growing times can be worth very different amounts on the same afternoon.
The bazaar is the other half of the picture. There you sell directly to other players at your own price. When the town's businesses are paying badly for something, the bazaar often is not — and the reverse. Checking both takes ten seconds and regularly doubles what a harvest is worth.
Research beats switching. Researching a seed permanently makes the same seed yield more and ripen faster. Because the effect is permanent, it pays back fastest on the crop you plant most — not on the expensive one you plant occasionally. Spreading research thin across many seeds is the slowest possible way to spend it.
Care is free money. Watering and hoeing cost nothing and apply to a whole bed, so they are worth the most on a full bed. Fertiliser and pesticide are bought in town: fertiliser buys time, pesticide protects a harvest that is already growing. A sick crop left untreated quietly loses part of its yield.
- Read the exchange before choosing a seed, not after harvesting.
- Compare the town's price to the bazaar — they often disagree.
- Put research into the crop you plant most often.
- Water and hoe a full bed; both are free.
- Treat disease the moment the marker appears.
The short version: the best crop is the one somebody is waiting for, that finishes about when you next open the game, and that you have researched.
